This circular walk is a short exploration of the north part of Hayling Island, taking in the start of The Hayling Billy Trail, a diversion via former Oyster Beds in Langstone Harbour and then branching eastwards to North Hayling, past the oldest church on the island and returning over Hayling Bridge to The Ship Inn.
The route provides a mix of sea and fields, is generally level and considered ‘easy’. It offers tranquillity and a hint of how the island used to be in days gone by – don’t forget your binoculars! There are gates and stiles to negotiate and the main Hayling access road must be crossed, at traffic lights. The Trail is shared with cyclists, so care is needed.
Start/End: The Ship Inn, Langstone Rd, Langstone PO9 1RD [public car park]. Can get busy, so allow time. Neap tide, LW 0859/HW 1616 Portsmouth, so flooding shouldn’t be an issue.
Lunch: Optional. Make your own arrangements [02392 471719], or perhaps just stay for a coffee.
