Yarmouth Mid Week
The Yarmouth Midweek rally kicked off with a dire weather warning, but luckily Wednesday morning was calm, ideal for the motor yachts but slow going for the yachts who were making their way to Yarmouth.
A couple of motor yachts had beaten the forecast and arrived a day or two early but by Wednesday night, 9 boats had arrived in Yarmouth. Pompey Lass, the last to arrive, were the only ones to get caught in the torrential rain which by then had set in.
Pontoon drinks were scheduled for 6pm but by then heavy rain had settled in for the night which encouraged everyone to gather in the cockpit of Riptide and the gathering turned out to be warm, dry and very sociable. Afterwards everyone ate ashore or cooked onboard. Shoogly Monster topped the charts with birthday celebrations at The Hut in Colwell Bay.
On Thursday morning the weather was dry enough to allow most people to set off for a walk round Fort Victoria Country Park. Walkers diverged to find the best route and miraculously we all met up at the café at the same time for a misty view of Hurst Castle in the low cloud. There was time in the afternoon to browse the shops in Yarmouth or just relax.
On Thursday night we were joined by Liberty in time for dinner at The Bugle Hotel. 20 of us fitted well onto 3 tables and a good time was had by all.
Riptide had to leave on Friday morning and a couple of boats also decided to use the weather window to head home. Others stayed for the Yarmouth Weekend rally.
A big thank you for the company of Gîte, Jomima Six, Liberty, Pompey Lass, Pleasure, Reef Knot, Saskia, Shiraz, Shoogly Monster, Thomas Hardy. It was a great couple of days in Yarmouth, despite the weather.
