Pop Up Tender Rally 2- The Crate at Trafalgar Wharf
Friday 11th August from 18:00
Friday late afternoon held sunny skies and a warm breeze as 8 tenders waited in good order for the lock gates to open at 18:00. Most entered on time but a special reopening had to be enacted by the lock keeper as a final straggler squeezed in.
A low tide is always fun in the lock with the cascade being quite a sight. All tenders behaved well keeping their outboards ticking over as required by Premier. Once at sea level the gates were open and we were cheered on our way by “ well wishers” on the lock side in customary fashion.
One tender had a little engine trouble on the way but club comradeship saw another keep in step till we all moored up in the inner harbour.
The terrace at The Crate was soon buzzing with chat and then live music as our total attendance of 52 got into the spirit. Despite a mix up on the food truck booking, Luke and his team did a marvellous job in the kitchen serving up enormous burgers and fry’s to a hungry group. Dancing ensued ( X Commodores included ) as the musician hit his groove with his sets. We were joined in our fun by a couple of serious ribs that came up from Portsmouth - future members in sure. We had some first time attendees and were delighted to have the oldest founding member of PSYC , Catherine some 90 years strong, join a happy evening.
As 22:00 grew near and darkness descended tenders made there way back to Port Solent with two having mechanical issues gratefully accepting a tow home, one from your rally leader. Again the friendship and helpfulness that is the hallmark of our club shone thru.
All tenders returned to their mother ships in warm and calm conditions.
Thank you to all the amazing participants, you made a great evening all round.
