Folly Mid week - 14th September
It turned out to be a very intimate group attending this two day mid week rally, just the three boats. Even this was fortunate as it was very nearly only two. Pompey Lass had spent the previous night at Island Harbour leaving the marina at around midday. That afternoon Island Harbour went into administration locking in all boats there. A few hours later and she too would have been incarcerated. Still, oblivious of this situation, we all settled down to look forward to a nice stay at the Folly.
Arriving to stake our claim to the walk ashore pontoon we were immediately sent packing across the river to the mid river pontoons. The Folly claimed not to have had our booking. Apparently they got us confused with the ‘Yately Offshore Sailing Club’who had nine boats and took precedence. Full of apologies they offered us half price river taxi crossings as compensation. Undeterred we established ourselves across the river in oodles of pontoon space. A dinghy was present and so there was no cause for grief, or river taxi expenditure.
The Folly provided us with a very acceptable meal, despite the reduced menu due to the construction work going on there. All in all, a very pleasant evening was had by all.
We will look forward to revisiting the revamped Folly next year with its new shower block, office and piled decked area to the front.
NB. Please ignore the clock in the photo, we’re pretty sure we weren’t still there at 12:20am!
Have fun and stay safe
