Staycation 24th to 26th June 2022
The weekend started at the Harvester, Port Solent where a group of members gathered for informal drinks and conversation on Friday night.
Saturday morning dawned with a fresh SSW breeze for the proposed sail to the Nab Tower so action photographs to be taken of around a dozen members’ boats. After some discussion and a lot of telephone calls “Plan B” was agreed - a shorter sail to Horse Sand Fort at 12.30 to 1.30pm. We were extremely lucky to have skipper Ade on Never Enough to transport Jacey, the photographer and her assistant Toby.
Nick went along to help spot the PSYC members as they arrived, numbers having reduced, we reckoned, to around four sailing vessels and one power boat of which we managed to get pictures of just three. Horse Sand Fort turned out to be far busier than expected and the crew of Never Enough had some difficulty in identifying the right boats in the very bouncy conditions.
The next part of the weekend at home was the Hog Roast, at the Oyster Quay Garden and marquees. People were due to arrive at 6pm but we feared the worst at 5pm when the heavens opened with heavy rain for half an hour. Fortunately, the sun then came out as members arrived and the evening remained dry.
The Juicy Hog Company gave us a wonderful meal, of a whole roast pig, plenty of crackling, hot potatoes, a selection of salads and baps, more than enough for the 50 odd members and guests attending the evening. We finished off the meal with ice creams (supplied by PSYC: thanks to Peter and Carolyn for the use their freezer!) A huge thank you to Deborah and Chris Queen for facilitating the use of the venue, together with their help setting up, clearing away and providing music. A team of PSYC crew were also very busy on the night including, Mike, Cathy, Penny, Dave and Steve – thank you.
After we had eaten our meal Nigel and Ade set up a slide show of the fantastic photographs that Jacey, Toby and also some Nigel and Nick had taken earlier. There were some wonderful action shots, it definitely showed the weather conditions by the sails being well reefed!
A very big thank you to all that took part either in sailing out or taking photographs.
I think the whole evening went very well, sunshine, lots of good food and of course lots of fun, laughter and conversation.
This was not the end of the Staycation, as on Sunday morning it was “Brunch Time” in Newlyn Way. A splendid brunch was prepared and served by Hilary and Nicky (with some help from Mike and Richard) on their back terraces/gardens. More food, this time coffee, juice, bacon and sausage baps followed by lots of fresh fruit.
This was the perfect end to a great Staycation, there are lots of photographs on the website as well as our Facebook page.
Of course, this event would not have run smoothly with out all the help from members whether taking part of organising the event. I am sure you, like me, will appreciate all that goes into the booking system which is kept up to date by Hilary – thank you.
