Yarmouth rally (17 boats & 40 crew)
The rally gods turned on a fabulous weekend of weather as 17 boats converged on Yarmouth for June 11th rally. All boats were berthed on the north side of yellow pontoon and along back edge stern too. Nobody was moored more than 3 out. Members were arriving at various times some on Thursday evening extending their weekend others on Saturday for one night, but most arrived by midday Friday.
Those of us arriving on Thursday were greeted with a wet fog and an excursion for the lifeboat. It was out and back in 50 mins and all was well in the Solent.
The official Pontoon Drinks were to be held on Saturday but that did not stop most crew members from holding an impromptu drinks party on the pontoon Friday evening as well. The Rally was made up of both regular rally goers and new members tasting the joys of PSYC for the first time. It was nice to see so many new faces
.
Walks were organized among the various groups for Saturday some walking up the Yar river along the old railway track and back around the fields. Others ventured west along the coastal path taking in views across the Solent towards Hurst Castle, stopping at Victoria Castle for light refreshments. Whilst a third group went east along the coastal path toward Newtown Creek, returning to Yarmouth via drinks in the RSYC overlooking the Solent and Lymington. Saturday afternoon was spent lazing on the back of boats soaking up the lovely sunshine, talking to friends new and old or drinking at the yacht club.
After pontoon drinks Saturday evening was spent at the RSYC for most of the crews. With limited space 12 rally goers headed instead to Cucina, the Italian just off the square. Meals at both venues turned out to be excellent with the service also of a high standard. Views of the sun setting over Keyhaven were fantastic and I’m sure Tony our Burgee editor will be receiving some for the August edition, he does love a good sunset. Late Saturday was noticeably quiet with most crews heading to the safety of the own boats before late night drinking started.
Sunday morning was spent wandering around the old town of Yarmouth with its lovely old buildings the square and many artisan shops. Breakfast is always good from the Deli on the square or the café PO41. With the sun shining nobody was in a rush to head home and for some this was only the start of the sailing sojourn. As the last boats departed so came an end to another great weekend with the PSYC.
My thanks to Saskia, Scooby, Pure Spirit, Vida Boa, Mak II, Cooper Buoy, Shoogly Monster, X-Stream, Vortex, Crazy Ivan, Astrid, High Time, Shiraz, Bright Future, Gite, Freyja and Legato and their crews for making it such a success and lovely weekend. See you on the water soon.
